Sprayskirts
are an important accessory that can dramatically enhance the paddling
experience. The main purpose of a skirt is to keep water out of the
kayak cockpit. There are many styles and materials, some designed for
performance and others for comfort. Generally, for dry paddling in
basic conditions, a nylon coated skirt works well in warm weather.
When the conditions change, rougher seas or colder weather, or if you
intend to edge, brace or roll, then upgraded to a heavier fabric or
even neoprene is a good move.
Cockpit
covers keep the inside of the kayak dry when the kayak is not in the
water. During storage or transport, using a cover will keep the seat
dry and will avoid any surprise encounters with spiders, insects and
other critters!
